Apostille and authentication
The Apostille Treaty is an international treaty drafted by the Hague Conference on Private International Law. It specifies the modalities through which a document issued in one of the signatory countries, can be certified for legal purposes in all the other signatory states. Such a certification is called an apostille (French: certification). It is an international certification comparable to a notarization in domestic law, and normally supplements a local notarization of the document. Members of the Apostille treaty require legalization of the signature of the translator by means of an Apostille (stamp) issued by the registrar of the district court where the translator was sworn in. Other countries (non-members of the Apostille treaty) require an additional legalization of the document itself. Cooper Translations can take care of the required apostille stamp for which a surcharge to the relevant rate applies. The surcharge of €20 is charged by the Court where the stamp is obtained.
Some documents require translation by a sworn translator. For example: birth- and marriage certificates, diplomas, grades lists, certificates of good conduct, visa, etc. Cooper Translations is qualified to provide sworn translations.
